We’re In

Home Sweet Home

How has it been nearly 3 weeks since we moved?! I’ve had about 10 blog posts running in my head, but actually sitting down and writing it out (with photos!) is a different story.  Needless to say, we’re in our new house.  It wasn’t finished before we called the movers, but sometimes, you just gotta make things happen.

Here’s how it all went down…

Because we weren’t sure when Bradly’s surgery would be scheduled we wanted to make sure that we would be in the new house prior to that date.  (We find out tomorrow!) So on Feb 15, I had movers scheduled to come clean out our place.  I worked like a crazy person the week before (with the aid of my mom and sister) to box up and label everything.  We asked around for a few recommendations for movers and I settled on 3-Men Movers.  I cannot say enough good things about this company.  Although they were not the cheapest quote, they were by far the most professional and efficient.

Lord knows I have moved A LOT in my seemingly short adult life, and I knew that this time I was NOT going to beg and plead with family and friends to borrow their backs and their trucks.  I knew I wanted movers even before B’s accident; but that just solidified any waffling that might have started to creep in there.

Anyway, this little moving company sent (as the name suggests) 3 healthy fellas who had my place (up narrow stairs!) emptied in 2 hours!  And it would have been an hour and a half but it took about 30 minutes for them to (figure out how to) dismantle our IKEA storage bed.  I seriously couldn’t believe how quickly they worked and that all my favorite pieces were treated with TLC — wrapped in moving blankets and that plastic stuff which is the greatest invention since the internet.

The team worked just as efficiently getting us in the new house and before I knew it the team leader said, “sign here, we’re done!”  I’ve got a few thoughts on the actual process of moving that I’ll post later; but I couldn’t have been more pleased.

For now I am digging out and making progress one box at a time.  We still have quite a bit to do before we throw our first party (like build a shed for storage, paint/landscape exterior, build cabinets in bedroom, kitchen, and utility room, add kitchen shelves) but it does already feel like home.  I’m surprised at how indifferent I felt prior to moving, but once they laid out our rug, I knew it was meant to be and that I was in love with our new home.

Progress photos will soon appear…promise!
