I’m working like a mad woman over at the studio this week. I have my first workshop in the new space this Saturday! So my hopes of blogging more regularly in this space are pretty much nil this week! But I have high hopes come Monday… always on a Monday…
You can check out a sneak peak of the studio here.
We enjoyed our last weekend of freedom as B heads back for his final semester today. It was also another rainy, balmy, then freezing weird-weather kind of weekend. Saturday’s errands were spent in sandals while Sunday morning was the total opposite. On our way downtown at 6:30am the wind was blowing at 20mph, the temp was 40 degrees and it was raining buckets…all the while we were passing marathoners! I cannot imagine having to run in those conditions. I’m not sure what would have been worse: the temp, the wet, or the wall of wind! I am such a fair weather (or at least not cold weather) runner/jogger/walker.
My energy was clearly not spent doing the aforementioned activity; however, we did entertain a guest on Saturday and then met up with new friends for a delightful brunch on Sunday. It was actually an entire weekend of unexpected (and lovely) surprises, especially since B got a call for an interview (his first!) this week.
What a productive weekend! It started off with a bang on Thursday evening and didn’t stop until last night. But I really don’t have many photos to show for it. I spend the first part of the weekend cutting out our Christmas cards — I’m pretty pumped about this year’s design, as the hubs and I truly collaborated and both used our creative skills to make this one a fun one. (Granted, we keep saying that most folks are just going to look at it, smirk and say, “they’re so weird.” But it’s true; we are!) I then spent a good portion of the weekend locked down on the couch, laptop at hand, working on another poster/flyer/graphic design thing-y for our church. It has been so wonderful to learn a new program (the hubs might disagree!) Instead of doing everything (and I mean everything) in Photoshop; I’ve now done two projects in Illustrator. And as much as it pains me so say it, I really like it. (But it is still frustrating that there aren’t even MORE similarities between the two programs.) I even dipped my toes into InDesign; yikes! I also needed to create our return address labels and a photo-esque gift for a young couple who was recently married. Then on Saturday my sis asked me to create her some labels for her Christmas gifts this year! I’m honored she would think my design skills are worthy as her gift baskets always give Martha Stewart a run for her money. Hopefully I’ll pin-up a few of these recent design items in this space — if I can get over the vulnerability of it all…
It was HOT in Texas this past weekend! My pool-party friday date was a bust (again!) and then I didn’t even snap photos of what a good chunk of my weekend was spent doing… refinishing my mother’s kitchen cabinets. We are in the beginning stages of testing stain colors, matching new cabinets to old ones, etc. This week we hope to make some real progress as very soon my time will be spend with my husband!!!! (But I’m not counting down or anything…)
We kicked off B’s spring break this weekend, woo-who! He just doesn’t even know what to do with himself. I on the other hand got a little too friendly with a knife while making guacamole. Dumb. Anyway, I’m just glad we’ll all be spending the week together — sans homework! Oh, and this week also kicks off our local festival. Hopefully the mosquitoes won’t be too bad!
(Sometimes the weekend doesn’t quite wrap up until Monday night.) This weekend, as promised, I sorted more stuff and color-coded the new bookshelf. I got a surprise phone call from a friend (the 2+ hr catch-up-on-our-lives kind)! We also had a wonderful date night to see this dance company. (Stephania Figliossi is still O-mazing, btw.) We met a friend for drinks at a swanky lounge and I also managed to not get out of my pajamas for 24 hours. All-in-all…I loved every minute of it!
