Weekend Scene

This past weekend was exhausting.  We finally had my Grandmother’s estate sale.  Two days or that is enough to wipe out a professional athlete!  My mom and aunt have been working so hard for weeks getting everything organized and ready.  So when I showed up at 7:30 Friday morning they had everything all set up.  My sister and I worked “the wrap desk” and gorged ourselves on WAY too many doughnut holes.  (Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had an actual, real doughnut?! O-mazing).  My mother could be a professional garage seller and estate sale planner.  Everything in the house was sorted by category, placed on tables, and labeled.  But my favorite part was my desk.  It was outfitted with all the essentials: two calculators, money box, walkie-talkies, price key, coffee, gum, scissors, fingernail file, pens, markers, paperclips, two-vintage ID badges (or rather, 2 childhood photos found in a suitcase!), garbage can, tape, plastic bags, newsprint (yes, for wrapping fragile items), note cards, and a litte greenery for ambiance.  These people are not messing around!  The sale was indeed a success, and we were told on more than one occasion that “y’all are WAY too organized!” (We even had a few ask us if we did this for a living!)  I’m just glad to know that I get all my crazy-organization-efficiency habits honestly.

This wrap up is a little late, but I feel like my long weekend is just ending.  The last four days have been the longest days we’ve experienced in forever.  We crammed in so much before B finally shipped off this morning.  We had dinner with family, 50 trips to target and such, much needed date nights, and oh yeah we had to prep the house since we are subletting it!  (Yeah, more on that later).  I’m hoping we didn’t forget to do anything and really, as long as B has his passport, he can buy anything else he may need.  I can’t believe that when I wake up in the morning, my husband will be in London (and then on to Paris, multiple Italian cities, Amsterdam, & Copenhagen!)

My six week countdown has begun and my time is already filling up with projects and to-do lists (as well as the all-important Pool Party Fridays with my sis!)  We’ll see just how much really gets done!  Creatively, I’m hoping to stretch myself as The Hubs has with him our DSLR.  I’m hoping to experiment with a few of our film cameras and a good old point and shoot.  (This post reminds me that it’s not about the equipment, but the person using it!)

(Sometimes the weekend doesn’t quite wrap up until Monday night.)  This weekend, as promised, I sorted more stuff and color-coded the new bookshelf.  I got a surprise phone call from a friend (the 2+ hr catch-up-on-our-lives kind)! We also had a wonderful date night to see this dance company.  (Stephania Figliossi is still O-mazing, btw.)  We met a friend for drinks at a swanky lounge and I also managed to not get out of my pajamas for 24 hours.  All-in-all…I loved every minute of it!

Finally a cool front pushed though and we enjoyed a high of 85!  (If only it would rain more than just a few hours.)  The weekend included lots of running errands, a few museums, a bike ride, homework for B, computer work for me, and lots of cooking.  We tried our hand at organic spelt waffles — which turned out great — we also embraced the cool(er) nights by making apple crisp.  All in all, it went too fast!
