Helping Your Toddler Develop Problem Solving Skills

At toddler age your child will have to explore a lot of different elements to develop their skills naturally over time. Their fine motor skills, abilities in thinking for themselves, speaking and beginning to read and write will be critical, but other skills like decision making and solving problems will also be pivotal to their development.

Here are some ways you can help your child develop their core problem solving skills.

Start small

Children can begin to learn about solving problems from when they are very young, you just have to be a lot more creative. Posing more physical problems in front of them will be the best approach at this age, as they can practice their skills using their hands far quicker. Dropping toys, using alphabet wooden blocks or other objects like balls or cones will pave the way for their first steps towards solving problems in front of them.

As an infant, start encouraging your child to ask questions

Children won’t ever know how to approach something if they don’t feel comfortable asking questions. Have your child look at things that interest them from around the world and see what they think about them, then encourage them to ponder further about them. The more questions they ask, the better prepared they are for life, and it will give them the confidence to solve things in their own way.

Give your child control

Making all the decisions for your child can make things more difficult for their development. In reality your child should be exploring lots of different activities and subjects without much intervention, as this Nursery City will be recommending for all their students to give them an open experience. If you let your child take charge they will be seeing a lot of problems that they have to handle on their own, and it takes the pressure off you as a parent as well. They are showing their confidence more – giving them the skills to solve problems as and when they happen.
