One area your child should know well is about how to communicate with others online. They should know that anyone that is perceived as a stranger can be a risk no matter what platform they are using. Your child might already have a phone they use to browse social media, or they play video games with friends. Both of these platforms will have chat functions that can be used by strangers, too, so there are other areas to consider.

Remove the risks
Taking the risks away in the first place will ensure your child doesn’t have the choice. They can still play lots of video games and have fun using social media, but they don’t have to be given the ability to purchase anything. Lots of these sorts of places offer in-app purchases and subscription services – your child will have to then ask your permission. It’s a perfect opportunity to explain why they don’t need to have everything from the online platforms they use.
